Matt Wood
Episode: Legal concerns of Free Press including Section 230
In this episode, Matt Wood, Vice President of Policy and General Counsel for Free Press, discusses concerns about proposed legislation that would sunset Section 230 of Title 47 of the US Code. This regulation protects Internet companies from liability for lies, defamation and incitements to violence in information they disseminate, though not in information they originate.
He also discusses the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) including how its behavior has evolved since the Obama presidency, especially regarding net neutrality.
Matt Wood has served as an expert witness before Congress on multiple occasions. Before joining Free Press, he worked at the public interest law firm Media Access Project and in the communications practice groups of two private law firms in Washington, D.C. Before that, he served as editor-in-chief for the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review, worked for PBS, and spent time at several professional and college radio and television stations.
