About Media & Democracy

Spencer Graves at the microphone

In partnership with KKFI community radio in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, Friends of Community Media produces a series of radio shows exploring the role of media in democracy called “Radio Active Magazine”  which airs every Tuesday, 6 PM CST at https://kkfi.org/program/radio-active-magazine/

Part of Friends of Community Media’s mission is to educate citizens on the role of media in democracy.  Media make a government accountable.  Without accountability, a nation can slip into tyranny.  Authoritarian governments control access of information to the public by controlling all media.  In some nations, the state is all the journalism and real reporters are persecuted and imprisoned.

Dictators and extremists exploit Internet social media companies which make money by increasing political polarization in ways that incite violence, threaten democracy, rule of law, and even world peace.

“Media and Democracy” episodes are also available to members of Pacifica Radio Network at: http://audioport.org/index.php?op=series&series=Media+%26amp%3B+Democracy
