Media-Craving Campaign

Article in Poynter by Tom Jones, 4/29/25

Headline:  “Opinion | After 100 days of chaos, Donald Trump is hitting the media trail”

Subhead:  “You can’t help but wonder if his sudden desire to talk to traditional news outlets is due to his dreadful approval ratings”

“. . .What will the press in this country look like on Jan. 20, 2029, when Trump’s second term comes to an end?. . .”

“He and the administration have kicked the always-neutral Associated Press out of the press pool. Trump is suing CBS. He had already sued ABC. He is trying to end Voice of America. He is threatening the funding of NPR and PBS. He constantly attacks the media — including MSNBC, CNN, The New York Times, the major networks and even, on occasion, Fox News. His press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, consistently demeans the media during her White House briefings. . .”

Questions by the Media are ‘Stupid’

Article in Raw Story by Erik De La Garza, 4/29/25

Headline:  ” ‘ Stupid question’: Trump lashes out at reporter in new exclusive interview”

“President Donald Trump didn’t hold back his frustrations with a journalist during a heated moment in an exclusive ABC News interview, where he refused to say whether he had “100% confidence” in his embattled defense secretary.

“The tense exchange came in a new interview with ABC’s Terry Moran, who pressed Trump about ongoing turmoil inside the Pentagon involving Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

“ ‘Do you have 100% confidence in Pete Hegseth? Moran asked Trump in the Oval Office moment previewed on CNN Tuesday evening.

“ ‘I don’t have 100% confidence in anything, okay? Anything,’ Trump said as he bristled between his responses. ‘It’s a stupid question. ‘ . . .”

Non-MAGA Media Enemy of the People?

Article in Mediaite by Zachary Leeman, 4/29/25

Headline:  “Reporter From Far-Right Gateway Pundit Asks Trump if the Press is ‘Proving to Be the Enemy of the People’ “

“While speaking with reporters, Jordan Conradson asked Trump about the ‘leftist media’ while complimenting his ‘Gulf of America’ hat he was holding. Conradson accused the media of trying to ‘hide’ mugshots of illegal migrant criminals.

“ ‘They’re trying to hide the mugshots that are featured on the front lawn of rapists, murderers, pedophiles. What do you think of that? Aren’t they proving to be the enemy of the people?’ Conradson asked about the media.

“ ‘Well, I guess they are. I guess they are, right? Thank you. Who are you with?’ Trump said’. . .  Conradson complimented Trump’s hate and identified himself as Gateway Pundit’s White House correspondent, earning an approving nod from Trump. . .”

Don’t like News-Channel Polls?

Article in The Hill by Dominick Mastrangelo, 4/29/25

Headline:  “Stephen Miller tells Fox News anchor on air: Fire your pollster “

“Top White House aide Stephen Miller told Fox News anchor John Roberts that the network should fire its polling team during a live interview on Tuesday.

“After Roberts laid out a Fox News poll for Miller showing President Trump getting higher marks on issues like immigration and the border than on the economy and tariffs, he asked Miller point blank: “A lot of people think he’s spending too much time on tariffs and not enough time on the economy and lowering prices. What do you say?”

“ ‘I don’t want to make things weird for you, John,’ Miller responded. ‘But it is our opinion that Fox News needs to fire its pollster. And I won’t surprise you with that … but the Fox News pollster has always been wrong about President Trump.’ . . .”

‘New Media’ – “Tell Us What to Write”

Article in the Daily Dot by Mikael Thalen, 4/29/25

Headline:  ” Trump’s first ‘new media’ briefing hosts influencer who spent 7 days convinced the moon had disappeared”

Subhead: ” ‘Has anyone seen the moon lately? I’ve been looking for 7 days.’ “

“A conservative influencer who was convinced last year that the moon had disappeared attended a press briefing on Monday held at the White House.

“Kambree Nelson, an ambassador for the American First Policy Institute, was one of several individuals permitted to join a special briefing reserved solely for members of the ‘new media.’

“ ‘This is our first official influencer briefing,’ White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced at the press conference’s start. ‘Millions of Americans are now turning to social media and independent media outlets . . .”

“Nelson, who boasts more than 625,000 followers on X, was immediately ridiculed for her performance, asking Leavitt to tell her what questions she should ask the administration.

“Yet among all the members of the new media invited to the White House, a collection of independent journalists who all support President Donald Trump, Nelson is receiving extra attention given her outlandish beliefs and fears. . .”

Article in Mediaite by Ahmad Austin Jr., 4/28/25

Headline:  ” ‘New Media’ Reporter Straight Up Asks Karoline Leavitt to Tell Her What to Cover: ‘What Direction Do You Advise Me to Go In?’ “

“During the new media briefing, American First Policy Institute ambassador Kambree Nelson first bashed traditional media outlets for their coverage of the president — before asking Leavitt to give her marching orders.

“ ‘I’ve noticed — this is kind of like a repeat of 2016 — the legacy media has gone back to not reporting anything on President Trump,’ Nelson said. ‘In the beginning, we had them reporting everything that he was doing. Now, they’re kind of going back, again, to not reporting everything that he is actually doing.

“ ‘I’m kind of the nerd when it comes to reporting. I’m not the headline news girl. I’m the nuts-and-bolts, I’m the policy-type nerd; so what direction do you advise me to go into? Like the White House files that y’all send out every single day? Because that’s what people are used to. When they wanna ask me questions, they wanna know the nuts and bolts of everything.’ . . .”

Article in Media Matters by Pete Psipis & Reed McMaster, 4/24/25

Headline:  “By the numbers: As Trump snubs legacy media, data shows his press briefings elevate right-wing outlets”

“A Media Matters review of White House press briefings held so far in President Donald Trump’s second administration found that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called on right-wing media outlets 41% of the time, and 4 of the 5 reporters called on most were from right-wing outlets.

“The press briefings now include a ‘new media’ seat which the White House has used to amplify more right-wing voices. While the White House attacks traditional press freedoms, the press briefings are now littered with biased questions from the administration’s most staunch supporters. . .”

Policy Will Check Media Sources?

Article in Daily Beast by Kenneal Paterson, 4/26/25

Headline:   “AG Pam Bondi Smashes Press Safeguards in Leak Investigations”

“The Trump administration revoked Biden-era protections for journalists in leak investigations Friday, allowing authorities to compel reporters to testify against their sources once again.

“ ‘Federal government employees intentionally leaking sensitive information to the media undermines the ability of the Department of Justice to uphold the rule of law, protect civil rights, and keep America safe,’ said Attorney General Pam Bondi in a memo obtained by NPR. ‘This conduct is illegal and wrong, and it must stop.’

“Attorney General Pam Bondi’s new policy will revoke critical protections for journalists in leak investigations.

“The new policy permits authorities to extract an unprecedented level of information from journalists. It authorizes the Department of Justice (DOJ) to use subpoenas, court orders, and search warrants to obtain sensitive details.”

Media Missing Something?

Article in The New Republic bu Michael Tomasky, 4/25/25

Headline:  “Trump Just Did the Most Corrupt Thing Any President Has Ever Done”

Subhead:  “He’s using the White House to get rich from anonymous investors—and it’s hardly even a news story.”

“Imagine that Joe Biden, just as he was assuming office, had started a new company with Hunter Biden and used his main social media account to recruit financial backers, then promised that the most generous among them would earn an invitation to a private dinner with him. . . .”

“Take a minute, close your eyes. Let yourself see Jim Jordan’s face go purple in apoplexy, hear the moral thunder spewing out of Jesse Watters’s mouth, feel the shock (which would be wholly justified) of the New York Times editorial board as it expressed disbelief that the man representing the purported values and standards of the United States of America before the world would begin to think it was remotely OK to do such a thing. The media would be able to speak of nothing else for days. Maybe weeks. . .”

Rt. Wing Media Women

Article in The Guardian by Anna Silman, 4/25/25

Headline:  “Now comes the ‘womanosphere’: the anti-feminist media telling women to be thin, fertile and Republican”

Subhead:  “A crop of conservative personalities such as Brett Cooper and Candace Owens, and outlets like Evie, are convincing young women of a gender-essentialist worldview”

“Analyses of the 2024 election widely heralded the ‘manosphere’ – the coalition of bro podcasters and YouTubers popular with male audiences – as key to delivering Donald Trump’s victory. According to an AP poll, 56% of men under age 30 went for Trump compared with 41% four years prior. . .”

“Now, there are the beginnings of an organized effort to create a similar alternative rightwing media ecosystem targeting young female US audiences – one of the few demographics that has, until now, leaned substantially Democratic.

“This new ‘womanosphere’ includes (Brett) Cooper’s channel as well as lifestyle magazines like the Conservateur and Evie, Candace Owens’s Club Candace, Alex Clark’s Maha (‘Make America Healthy Again’) talkshow Culture Apothecary, conservative Christian influencer Allie Beth Stuckey’s Relatable, and swimmer turned anti-transgender activist Riley Gaines’s podcast Gaines For Girls. . . . the female answer to Tate. . .”

Unchain the Media?

Article in Poynter by Angela Fu, 4/24/25

Headline:  “A majority of Americans believe press freedom is important. Far fewer believe the press is actually free.”

Subhead:  “Only 33% of Americans say the media is ‘completely’ free to report the news, according to a new Pew Research Center survey”

“Though two-thirds of Americans believe press freedom is very important, only a third say that the media is actually completely free to report the news, according to a Pew Research Center study released Thursday.

“That gap — where more people say press freedom is important than report actually having it — is found across countries as diverse as Chile and Turkey, the study finds. Pew’s study is based on surveys of more than 50,000 adults across 35 countries and covers perceptions of free speech and internet freedom in addition to press freedom.

“In the U.S., 67% of adults said it is “very” important that the media can report the news without government censorship, while 26% said it is “somewhat” important. While those figures are slightly higher than the median across the 35 countries surveyed, several countries like Sweden and Canada had higher shares of adults who said that press freedom is “very” important. . .”

Media Detergent Needed!

Article in Raw Story by Andrew Chapman, 4/23/26

Headline:  ” ‘Wow’: Chuck Todd floored as MAGA allies ‘air dirty laundry’ to media”

“President Donald Trump has vehemently denied any plans to get rid of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth — but that resolve already appears to be cracking, former NBC anchor Chuck Todd told a CNN panel on Wednesday evening, as the scandals continue to mount and his position becomes less and less tenable. . .”

” ‘Is there ever a more straightforward sign in Trumpworld that you are on your way out the door than the president suddenly starting to ask the people around him about you?’ anchor Kasie Hunt asked Todd.

“Todd agreed. ‘By the way, for some of us in the press who have had an on-again, off-again relationship with the president, I’ve been on the receiving end of that myself,’ said Todd.”
